Spellbury

Privacy Policy

Effective October 25, 2026

Spellbury does not collect, store or share any personal information. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Everything your family adds stays on your device.

Who we are

Spellbury is a spelling practice app for children, made by an independent developer. It runs on iPad and iPhone, and a free version runs in a web browser at spellbury.com. In this policy, "we" means the maker of Spellbury, and "you" means the parent, guardian or teacher using it with a child.

Information we collect

None. Spellbury has no sign-up and no user accounts. We do not collect names, email addresses, ages, locations, device identifiers, usage statistics or any other information about you or your child.

The app and this website contain no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking or data-collection tools.

What stays on your device

To work, the app saves a few things in its own storage on your device. We never receive a copy.

WhatWhy
Word lists and example sentencesSo your child can practice them
Practice results and progress statsTo show which words are mastered and which need work
Voice recordings a grown-up makes of words and sentencesPlayed back during practice instead of the built-in voice
Settings (voice, speed, sounds)To remember your choices

Deleting the app deletes all of this. If you use a device backup (iCloud or a computer), Apple may include the app's data in that backup under Apple's own privacy terms.

Microphone

In the app, the microphone is used only when a grown-up taps Record to record a word or sentence. Recordings are saved on the device and are never uploaded or shared. You can delete any recording in the app, and you can turn off microphone access at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. The website never uses the microphone.

Camera and photos

If you choose to scan a printed spelling list, the app reads the words from the photo using Apple's on-device text recognition. The photo is not saved by the app and is never sent anywhere. Only the words you choose to add are kept.

Speech and sentences

Words are read aloud with recordings built into Spellbury or with your device's built-in voices. Example sentences come from a list built into Spellbury or, in the app, are written by Apple's on-device language model where available. Your words are not sent to us or to any other service.

The website

The free web version saves your word list in your browser's local storage on your computer, so it's still there next time. It is never sent to us. Clearing your browser's data removes it.

The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Its pages, recordings and sentences are downloaded from our web host, Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, as any web host does. We do not use that information to identify or track anyone.

When you share a list, the words are written into the link itself. Nothing is uploaded or stored by us.

Purchases

The full version is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, Apple Account or payment details. Apple tells the app only whether the full version has been bought, so it can unlock it. Nothing can be bought on the website.

Children's privacy

Spellbury is designed for children and follows Apple's rules for the Kids category. Because we collect no personal information from anyone, we collect none from children. Purchases, the settings area and any link that leaves the app are behind a grown-ups-only check, and links to the App Store on the website are behind the same kind of check.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how Spellbury handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. We will not start collecting personal information from children.
